Krushunski waterfalls

Krushuna waterfalls are a unique natural phenomenon, located only 45 km from Veliko Tarnovo, near the village of Krushuna, Letnitsa municipality. This is the largest travertine cascade in Bulgaria, formed by the deposition of calcium carbonate, which creates bizarre shapes and terraces.

The waterfalls are part of the natural landmark “Maarata”, which covers an area of 0.7 hectares and was declared a protected area in 1991. The complex includes a series of small waterfalls and lakes with crystal clear water, which create a fabulous atmosphere in all seasons.

Eco-trail and routes

Main eco-path
A well-maintained eco-trail with a length of about 1.5 km passes by the waterfalls and allows visitors to enjoy the beauty of nature. Along the way, wooden bridges, platforms and stairs are built, which provide safe access to the different levels of the waterfalls.

Maarata Cave
Next to the waterfalls is the Maarata Cave, from which the water that feeds the cascades springs. The cave is partially accessible to visitors and offers impressive views of underground lakes and stalactites.

The area around the Krushunski waterfalls is distinguished by rich biodiversity. Here can be observed:
